Who is the God of his Fathers?
Neither shall he regard the God of his fathers Stop point: 59:10 A solemn oath to extirpate heresy was taken, in the great cathedral where, nearly three centuries later, the "Goddess of Reason" was to be enthroned by a nation that had forgotten the living God. Again the procession formed, and the representatives of France set out to begin the work which they had sworn to do. At intervals along the homeward route, scaffolds had been erected for the execution of heretics, and it was arranged that at the approach of the king the pile should be lighted, that he might thus be witness to the whole terrible spectacle. The details of the tortures endured by these witnesses for Christ are too harrowing for recital; but there was no wavering on the part of the victims. On being urged to recant, one answered, "I only believe in what the prophets and apostles formerly preached, and what all the company of the saints believed. My faith has a confidence in God which will resist all the power of hell." {GC88 229.2} |
Neither shall he regard the God of his fathers
The video implies that we are looking back on the Papal fathers which I don't think is the case. For they went and served other gods, and worshipped them, gods whom they knew not, and whom he had not given unto them: (Deut 29:26) They sacrificed unto devils, not to God; to gods whom they knew not, to new gods that came newly up, whom your fathers feared not. (Deut 32:17) The Fathers I believe are Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Ye have seen all the evil that I have brought upon Jerusalem, and upon all the cities of Judah; and, behold, this day they are a desolation, and no man dwelleth therein, Because of their wickedness which they have committed to provoke me to anger, in that they went to burn incense, and to serve other gods, whom they knew not, neither they, ye, nor your fathers. (Jer 44:2-3) You could not say this if your comparing the current Kings to previous Kings. The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun. (Ecc 1:9) The first Atheist I can find is Diagoras of Melos who was some Greek philosopher going back to the 5th century BC. |
