Identifying He, Him, His

And at the time of the end shall the king of the south push at him: and the king of the north shall come against him like a whirlwind, with chariots, and with horsemen, and with many ships; and he shall enter into the countries, and shall overflow and pass over. Up until verse 40 (at least in the SDA world) there are mostly two main beliefs.
The first debate is, are there two powers here or three.
Two Powers:
Three Powers:
Looking at the Hebrew text I think only two powers.
So how do we determine who the Him/He/His is now? Maybe because Rome controlled both sides it never needed to be called King of the North. Or do we use the He/Him/His to whatever power we are talking about at the time? These are answers I don't know but something to think about as we go through these verses. And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. (Mat 24:6-7) At that time, while the work of salvation is closing, trouble will be coming on the earth, and the nations will be angry, yet held in check so as not to prevent the work of the third angel. {EW 85.3} |
