Daniel 10:1 "In the third year of Cyrus king of Persia a thing was revealed unto Daniel, whose name was called Belteshazzar; and the thing was true, but the time appointed was long: and he understood the thing, and had understanding of the vision."
Cyrus who Isaiah prophesied would be the one to overthrow Babylon.
The vision starts off with the Persians and then Greece.
Lets start with just a bit of an introduction.
Who is talking to Daniel this time?
I would say the Prince of Persia here is represented as Satan, and Michael the Chief Prince is represented as Jesus.
Daniel 10:13 "The prince of the kingdom of Persia
Satan
withstood me
Gabriel
one and twenty days: but, lo, Michael,
Jesus
one of the chief princes, came to help me;
Gabriel
sand I
Gabriel
remained there with the kings of Persia.
Daniel 10:14 "Now I
Gabriel
am come to make thee
Daniel
understand what shall befall thy people in the latter days: for yet the vision is for many days.
We saw it was the angel Gabriel that came to Daniel in chapters eight and nine.
I'm sure it is the same angel again, but Satan was holding him back this time.
Daniel 10:20 "Then said he
Gabriel,
Knowest thou wherefore I
Gabriel
come unto thee
Daniel
? and now will I
Gabriel
return to fight with the prince
Satan
: of Persia and when I
Daniel
am gone forth, lo, the prince of Grecia shall come."
Daniel 10:21 "But I
Gabriel
swill shew thee
Daniel
that which is noted in the scripture of truth: and there is none that holdeth with me
Gabriel
in these things, but Michael
Jesus
your prince."
This is just a part of the introduction to the vision he details in chapter eleven and twelve.
You may want to review the whole chapter fist.
Complete Chapter 10
The further you get into the chapter the more viewpoints you get.
The way I'm approaching this chapter, is the same as all the others.
Each vision, more information is given.
I'm following the same flow of Kingdoms we have already been introduced to.
I'm not going to start adding all these other kingdoms to it.
I think we have been given an outline from the start, why get sidetracked now.
At the end though, when were past what we know already and is still future, there will be some guessing going on.
And I would like to say, there is not a lot of light on Daniel 11 and 12, so please don't take my word for it.
These chapters will require much study, and I may change things as I come into more understanding.
This prophecy does wrap up things near the end with these words...
But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased. (Daniel 12:4)
Many say the "to and fro" means the study of the scriptures.
More light will be made available as we get closer to the end.
Now lets get on with the study.
Daniel 11:1 "Also I in the first year of Darius the Mede, even I, stood to confirm and to strengthen him."
Daniel 11:2 "And now will I shew thee the truth. Behold, there shall stand up yet three kings in Persia; and the fourth shall be far richer than they all: and by his strength through his riches he shall stir up all against the realm of Grecia."
Clearly we can see we start off with Persia and move into Greece.
The four kings who stood up in Persia were:
- First King - 525 BC - Cambyses II
- Second King - 521 BC - the false Smerdis
- Third King - 521-486 BC Darius I
- Fourth King - 486-465 - Xerxes - also known as Ahasuerus, the husband of Queen Esther.
Note:
There were more then four kings in Persia so the interpretation here varies which four they are.
You may want to research this and see what four you believe this points to.
Also to Note:
Not saying all these dates are exactly correct either.
Here is another page I found on the Kings Of Persia.
They have the Kings in this order.
